Photography Painting

Each of my pieces starts out as a black and white photo. 35mm images are lab enlargements hand colored with oil paint. These have subdued color tones, like hand painted photos from the early 20th century. Digital images are printed on watercolor paper, and hand colored with pastel pencils, which have more vibrant color, and allow me to bring out more detail.

These are not color reprints! I limit each b/w photo to 100 prints, but unlike other photography, each one has been colored by hand, and is one of a kind. Inkjet printing has been done with archival inks, and all paper, mats, and mounting board are acid free.

My goal is to blur the line between photography and painting, while finding inspiration in the layers of light, shadow, texture and color in everyday scenes.
